michel sardaby - gail (1974)

Caribbean-born French pianist Michel Sardaby released this in 1974 - there's three or four dreamy rhodes tracks and a few piano trio numbers. I particularly like Richard Davis' bass playing on this. "Welcome New Warmth" has been on a few compilations before.

Sardaby was born in Fort de France, Martinique in the French West Indies in 1935. Surrounded constantly by music in his dad's brasserie, he bacame a child prodigy on the piano. he went on to study art at the Boulle School in Paris before deciding to concentrate on a career as a jazz pianist. Throughout the 60s, he played piano with blues musicians like Sonny Boy Williamson and T-Bone Walker, at the same time beginning to release more jazz-focused solo albums.

I have no idea who "Gail" was/is, but i'm sure she can't have been too happy when he released an album called "Karen" in 2003 ...

  1. btw this is a vinyl rip that I found on a file-sharing program many years ago - it's 128k, but surprisingly good quality for that, pretty good on the frequency range.

  5. Thanks for this.

I had high expectations after hearing "Welcome New Warmth" (which you can find at better quality in the rips of the compilation Bilongo). In fact it is a run of the mill straight piano jazz album. Good job I didn't pay for this ;-)

  11. This album is a true gem. Thanks for sharing it with us. Besides "Welcome new warmth" I also very much liked "Gail" and "Help me belong here".

As much as I appreciated this album, in this genre "MARCO DI MARCO TRIO AT THE LIVING ROOM" is even better. See: http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/2008/06/marco-di-marco-trio-at-living-room.html

    Greetings,

  21. Dear all,

You can buy almost all Sardaby's for less than 20 euros each

Please BUY his LPz. It's beautiful music; sometimes less fusion, sometimes not my taste. But this artist is alive and need our recognition

GIVE HIM YOUR MONEY - Don't STEAL The MAn! This is not fair.

Plus there is this compilation by his daughter called "The Art of Michel Sardaby" recently distributed, in France only I think (see link of article in french - Use translated page if interested : http://blogdechoc.over-blog.com/article-l-art-de-michel-sardaby-97875958.html )

Mr Sardaby has health problem so this album is for him / to him, auto-produced by his daughter Patricia

    Intense moment is here http://musique.fnac.com/a718813/Michel-Sardaby-Intense-moment-CD-album

    Merci pour l'Art
