Romano Mussolini - "Mirage" (1974)

Jazz pianist Romano Mussolini was the son of that Italian dictator, and this is a nice rhodes jazz album from 1974 with some funky moments. And you know how much I love that 70s bauhaus font on the cover.

People keep asking me for this album in comments, and I've had a rip for about four or five years from Soulseek, where I used to 'live" in pre-music blog days.

I had expected the album to pop up again on the blogosphere, but it's seemingly not around anymore ... at some stage it's been at My Favourite Sound, Quimsy's Mumbo Jumbo and Funkydisposition, but the age of this download makes me pretty sure it's not from you guys. Anyway, I'll throw it into the comments at your blogs as well.

I hope to sometime find a higher bitrate version myself, but this still sounds fine. The tracks "Mirage" and "Blues for Alexandria" are snagged from comps and are in 320kbps, the rest is at 128.

** Also check the comments for more Mussolini on the rhodes, and more Italian funky jazz from the Sergio Fanni Quintet, courtesy of Ish.

Enjoy!

this link contains Soft and Swing by Musolini. (Sorry, really hard to get around that name. Kinda creeping me out. Not his fault who his father is. Yikes.) Anyway, 1979: Cicci Santucci - trumpet
    Roberto Zappulla - drums
    Maurizio Lazzaretti - drums
    Wilfred Copello - percussions
    Lono Ranieri - electric bass
    Romano Mussolini - Fender piano;
    320 kbps, not my rip.
(DL also includes Sergio Fanni quintet, Hard Suite, 1975)

thanks simon, will check this one out.

  7. Wow. Seriously wicked LP here Simon. Hope I can track it down or find a flac/wav somewhere cuz this is chock full of dope samples - especially "Hong Kong" and "Mirage." Good thing they cut off Benito's balls AFTER he fathered Romano!

Love the Italian jazz you put up at NER, never seem to have enough of it.

Ish, thanks for the other link, too! Sounds like it'll be just as satisying...

  10. Thanks. Never been much of a fan, he plays too many standards and too much blues for my liking, but there are a couple of tasty numbers in there. I like the Fanni ish posted though (no pun intended)

  12. Romano Mussolini also recorded soundtracks with Roberto Pregadio for the nowadays so-called cult movies Kriminal and Satanik.

    From dusty:

"An amazing little soundtrack that's every bit as groovy as its cover -- a great blend of 60s mod and Italian jazz, all in support of the skeleton-costumed master thief Kriminal! This CD represents the first full length presentation of the film's soundtrack -- a long-overdue masterpiece that steps off the jazzier modes used in Italian films of the early 60s, touched by some of the more dynamic production and arrangement styles that were creeping in later in the decade -- all served up over short, sweet tracks that dance with delight and drama throughout! There's even a bit of the British and American spy modes of the time creeping into the mix -- no doubt a way of highlighting the "international crime" reputation of lead character Kriminal."

    Interested?

  22. The fact that it is Mossolini's son is a gimmick in it self, but once you get over that you realize it really is a great album!!
