Herbie Hancock / Headhunters - "Live in Bremen" (1974)
'Chameleon' excerpt
'Butterfly' excerpt
'Spank-A-Lee' excerpt
To take us up to 44 live bootlegs in the Herbie Hancock collection, here's a November 1974 show from Bremen in Germany, originally broadcast on Radio Sendesaal. Hancock's keyboards (mostly rhodes, some synth n' clav) are great on this one, and the Headhunters really stretch out, with Summers and Clark punching through the mix. Maupin's sax solo is on fire in "Spank-A-Lee"
Only 192kbps, but a reasonably clear and well-mixed original broadcast recording. Hope you enjoy it!
TRACKLIST
01. 'Butterfly' (15:30)
02. 'Spank-A-Lee' (6:48)
03. 'Chameleon' (16:46)
MUSICIANS
Herbie Hancock - keyboards
Bennie Maupin - reeds
Paul Jackson - bass
Mike Clark - drums
Bill Summers - percussion
DETAILS / INFO
Soulseek find, seemingly not on any blogs, forums or webpages. I've converted the single wma file to 192kbps mp3; and separated the tracks with a lossless editor.

I have such respect for the love and attention that you put into NER.
It's people like you who are keeping this wonderful and under-appreciated music alive amidst an ocean of corporate blandness.
Hope to get to OZ in 2010 (from London) and will try to look you up at one of your sessions and will happily buy you a beer - or seven.
Yes, That's what we need!!!
Thanks again!
Great great groovy find. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you so much for contributing to my collection of Hancock I have not heard. You provide the music, background history. The work and tender treatment you put into getting this music in shape for others to listen to is amazing. I'm fairly new to bloggers' music sites and am constantly amazed at the generosity of music lovers who work so hard to bring the rest of us lost or "almost-impossible-to-find" music.
Please don't count posts. There's an, unfortunately, large group of folks who have turned into opportunistic leeches who expect everything now to be given free to them from the internet. Even such payment as a "thankyou" is unknown to them.
Me, I come from the old folks non-computer generation where you walked the city streets, hunting through music stores to get your stuff. Now, somewhat arthritic (:)) I am verrrrry appreciative of having this kind of access without leaving my home.
So, after blathering on, simply, thanks for all you do.
You're welcome Troods, thanks for all your comments :)
thanks
So much of Herbie's live stuff rivals his studio work, often the case with jazz artists. I love hearing him really stretch out and explore the boundaries of deep funk. This is killer stuff. Much appreciated.
Glad you're enjoying it Jason, thanks for all of your comments - and thanks also for the props at your blog :)

A great big tip of the old pork pie too you for this one
Hi folks, I've posted the 1974 PBS Soundstage show with Herbie Hancock, Headhunters, Chick Corea and Return to Forever. You can download the one hour video or just get an audio version, here :

Simon666,
I have the other two tracks from this show, Palm Grease & SLY. They are tracks 1 & 2 respectfully, followed by Butterfly, Spank-A-Lee and Chameleon.
I would like to email them to you to see if you could match the levels to your audio. I have put them together in order with your audio, but they are considerably lower in bass & volume. Let me know- Great blog!!! You gotta love 70's Miles & Herbie! Dig!
Hi Daddy-O '73 - that would be great! Could you leave an email address here in a comment ? I won't publish your email, but I'll mail you and delete the comment. Thanks, would be great to hear them!
Simon
